Jimaral M. is fighting stereotypes

Jimaral M.AIM HIGHER –

Jimaral wants to make movies. “My babysitter was the television set. I learned a lot through TV and it was really engaging to me. I was exposed to so much at such a young age. The more I learn in my classes and at school the more I recognize stereotypes in the media that I want to fight in my work – especially stereotypes that are degrading to people of color. I want to make movies that battle against those ideas.”

Currently, Jimaral is studying Africana Studies at the University of Arizona in Tucson. He will graduate in 2017. Growing up he moved from house to house and didn’t have a lot of support. His family still doesn’t know how to help him in college, because none of them have ever gone. According to Jimaral, “I want a better life.  I want to be the first in my family to graduate from college.”

FC2S is glad to help Jimaral pursue that dream.

Tomorrow, meet Hassan.
